Background

Since his youth he trained in martial arts. He rose is skill and rank within the fighting circles of Japan. Eventually, he was chosen to be a student of a secretive swordsmanship school in China. The school stressed finding one's own specific talent and mastering it completely. The main focus of this training was to expose the students to every known martial style. This was accomplished primarily by inviting top fighters from around the globe to train there. Shinta developed a fighting style that allowed him to use every technique and form he was exposed to, and fluidly switch between them in battle. To accomplish this he chose a double edged katana and an iron sheath, which could be used to mimick single weapon, double weapon, or weapon and shield styles.

Near the end of his training the elders chose him for a dark experiment. The schools reputation was dwindling, supers were becoming commonplace, and they were desperate. To create a perfect warrior they gave him the chance to accept a supernatural endowment via an ancient curse. Warry of the nature of this power, he refused. The elder's did not except it and forced it apon him. The curse was called 'Null Warrior' and it stole him from existence. 

At first, the curse-ceremony was believed to have been a failure. Showing no signs of powers, and now in rebellion against the school (understandably), he was locked away. He was indeed cursed however, and one the consequences is that he is quickly forgotten. Shinta rotted in the prison almost to the point of death. He taught himself to use another aspect of the curse to escape--the ability to shift away from existence and become intangable.  Apon escape, he slew every elder and severly injured any student that stood in his way. This action destroyed the school. 

He is now a wanderer, trying to use his curse for good, and eventually-- find a way to remove the curse. His primary means of supporting himself is hiring himself out as an assasin or thug for criminals. He will take the job and the payment (when he can get it in advance), then deliberately botch the job. Since he is quickly forgotten he can repeat this process over and over. His dealings with the criminal underworld give him extensive knowledge of their workings, which he uses to his advantage.

Powers/Curse factor

-Because he is partially out of existence at all times, his body is light and his 'Ki' or aura is impossible to detect by anyone other than experts in that area--and even then, only slightly.

-Can shift almost completely out of existence, leaving only mind and spirit. This incredibly upsetting, psychologically, and slows his movements considerably. When he does this, he is immediatley forgotten.

-His entire existence is gone from a persons mind in about a month of his absense(baring above situation). (Spirits and telepaths have lasting memory of him)

-He has a sword technique that temporarily transfers shifting state to another object along the cutting path of his sword. This paralyzes people and animals for a time. He uses his sheath in concert with his blade and can cut through anything by shifting it, then pushing it apart.

Appearance

Wears a tattered black Hakama. His upper body and arms are covered in bandages. He has his hair in a top knot (naturally). On his bandaged back is the bloody mark of the cursing ceremony-- A circle with a sword pointing diagonaly downward. His sword's tsuba is in the shape of a 'null'/'nought' symbol.

Personality

He is usually stoic on the outside, but troubled in mind and heart. He speaks formally and does not use contractions. As a means of intimidation, he will often use cryptic words and phrases such as "My life is a thread the fates have forgotten" and the like. He will kill, but does not often choose to because of his non-lethal techniques.
