Andrew Wade was a volunteer children’s minister who was greatly burdened by the fact that the children he was working with seemed to have lost hope. He prayed that God would show him the way to bring back their hope.

One night he was running an errand that took him far out in the countryside. As he was returning home, he noticed flames through the window of a small country church. He stopped to see if there was anything he could do and thought he heard a voice calling out from inside. He ran to the door and found it was unlocked. He opened the door and was certain that he heard a woman’s voice inside.

He ran inside looking for anyone that might be trapped. He could see a bright glow coming from the auditorium and knew that had to be the fire he saw from outside. He ran to the door and tested to see if it was hot before entering. Inside the auditorium he saw flames everywhere.   At the front was the figure of a small woman. He ran to see if she was hurt.

As he approached her, she rose to her feet and turned to face him. Suddenly she was aglow like no light he had ever seen. She called him by name and told him that he had been chosen by the Lord to bring hope to the children.

She told him “The fire that burns in your heart will now burn for all to see. The light that is in your soul will become a guiding light to all that have lost their way.” Then she disappeared and the flames were gone.

Andrew looked at the room and there was no sign that there had ever been a fire. He then hurried out and went home. Shortly thereafter, he began to notice that he had the ability to channel what he calls “Holy Fire.”

He fashioned a costume based on the armor of God found in Ephesians and began his crime fighting career as Crossfire shortly afterwards.

History:

(Record significant events here as they occur)

Strength Level:

Cross-Fire has the normal strength of a man his height and build who engages in moderate exercise when he is not being augmented by the power of the Holy Fire. When the Holy Fire augments him, he can lift (press) ten tons. Subsequent increases in his faith and thusly the amount of Holy Fire flowing through him can place him in class 100+ (Able to move mountains) It should be noted that his strength seems to match that of his opponent and may vary from normal human to Class 100+ within the period of one day.

Known Abilities:

Cross-Fire has some skill as a martial artist. He holds a Yellow Belt in Tae-Kwon-Do and has trained in the use of a long sword, a police baton, and a six-foot staff. He has also studied to be an Emergency Medical Technician and was a Certified Nursing Assistant.

Known Superhuman Powers:

(HolyFire)There is some dispute as to whether or not Cross-Fire actually has super powers or not. All tests seem to indicate that he is a normal human male with no super ability whatsoever. Scientists that have studied him have been unable to prove that he has powers, or to explain the supernatural feats that have been attributed to him. Many times his deeds are typical superhero actions, but at other times he has displayed abilities that do not fit the pattern.

He explains that Holy Fire empowers him to do what he does. His description of Holy Fire is as good as anything the scientists have been able to come up with.

The energy that encompasses him appears to be a roaring fire, but it does not burn him, or anything it touches. Those who have come in contact with the flames report that they are actually cold to the touch. These flames can be seen by the naked eye, but do not photograph, and do not register on any monitoring device whatsoever.

Scientists have tried many methods of identifying this energy, but cannot even prove that what they are seeing exists.

Cross-Fire calls the flame Holy Fire and claims it is just a visible representation of the Power of God working on his behalf. Cross-Fire uses this energy for a variety of super feats.

NOTE: Whenever he is using his powers, he is surrounded by an aura of Holy Fire. The more power he is using, the more pronounced this aura becomes. In theory, if he were operating in the top of his power, he would appear to be totally engulfed in flames.

(Super Speed) He has been observed running at speeds up to 40 miles per hour. While moving at this pace he trails flame behind him like a comet’s tail.

(Super Strength) He has also been seen lifting incredible weights. When he does this, the flames form a column around him and seem to push the object upward. His upper limit has not yet been measured, but he has been estimated to be able to lift over ten tons. Projections say that his augmentation by the Holy Fire can place him in the range of class 100+ strength, although he has not yet exhibited that level of strength at this time.

(Force Field) He uses the flames to form a force field around him that is capable of deflecting knives and stopping bullets. Bullets fired at this field simply stop in mid air and fall to the ground unharmed. Knives stabbed at him turn away without striking him. He must be praying to activate this protective barrier and has made it a habit of praying under his breath as he fights.

(Flight) He uses the flames to fly by forming a giant set of bird’s wings around him. While flying like this he can carry two people that weigh as much as him. The wings can be summoned most anytime he wishes, but they often carry him where he needs to be rather than where he chooses to go. Also, they will not summon to carry him away if he is where he is supposed to be.

(Increased Endurance) He has increased endurance when augmented by the flames. It has been noted that he seems to never tire even under the most strenuous circumstances. It is this ability that allows him to patrol nights and work days without much need for sleep.

(Healing) Cross-Fire has exhibited the ability to heal others using this flame. A side effect of this use is that he must be willing to experience all of the injured person’s pain. This is often very intense for him, and he uses this ability sparingly.

(Word of Knowledge)  Occasionally, he will engulf another person in the flames with him and talk with them. The people involved have reported feeling incredible peace and comfort while this is happening. While doing this, he has exhibited knowledge of events that they did not share with him and of secret things in their life.

(Word of Wisdom)While sharing the flames, he has also offered advice into decisions that they were to make often telling them what the wisest decision would be, or…

(Prophecy) informing them of the consequences of a decision they were making. (Note: Prophecy always comes as a statement of consequences based on decisions currently being made by the person he is talking with. And follows an If/then pattern example: If you keep doing this, then this is going to happen)

(Tongues and interpretation) He has also been able to converse with people of other languages by sharing the Holy Fire.

(Divine Light) He can focus the flames on his sword to generate a bright light. He calls this the Divine Light.   Use of this ability is very taxing for Cross-Fire. When he exposes others to the Light, then he too is exposed to the Light. He must keep himself pure and in close fellowship with the Lord, or he will be unable to stand in the presence of the Light.

Crossfire has used this Light on one occasion to turn away a vicious dog that was threatening a child. After exposure to the Light, the dog became very gentle and affectionate and was adopted by the family of the boy that was threatened.

Persons exposed to this light report seeing their entire lives flashing in front of their eyes. Some say this shows them the evil that they have done and compels them to change their ways. Others claim it shows them the path they are to take in life or that it reveals the answer to a problem they have been facing. Some react violently to what they are shown and lash out at those around them. Still others run in fear and reject what they were shown.

(Path finding) CF has used the Divine light to direct him towards something he was seeking. It became a light unto his path.

(Spiritual Discernment) Crossfire is also able to use the light to identify types of demonic beings and to see evil/pain/secrets within the human spirit.

(Miracles)  He has been observed using the flames for other effects, but these all seem to be isolated incidents, and not indications of a permanent ability. He has used the flames to pass through a solid wall, to teleport a group of people out of a mine, to hold back a flash flood so a group of campers could get to safety, and to stop vehicles from crashing into each other.

Known Weaknesses:

Crossfire must spend time daily reading his Bible and praying or he is unable to manifest the Holy-Fire or the Divine Light. Furthermore, if he should commit an act that is against his moral values, then he must spend a period of time in fasting and prayer and seek forgiveness before he can use his powers again. Crossfire will also lose his ability to summon the fire if he gets too prideful in his accomplishments. He must remain humble and give all the Glory to the Lord.

Weapons and Equipment:

Crossfire wears a suit of white leather armor that is based on the Armor of God as described in the book of Ephesians. It consists of a breastplate, a helmet, boots, a utility belt, a round shield, and a telescoping sword. The armor itself is symbolic in nature and provides little if any actual protection. When he is in combat he focuses the Holy Fire onto the armor as a force field.

On Cross-Fire’s belt are several items to aid him in his quest for truth and justice. These include, but are not limited to cameras, recording devices, first aid equipment, listening devices, and binoculars. He also carries a wristlock slingshot and several rubber balls to use as a long range non-lethal weapon

ALLIES:

Detective Richard Havock: Richard Havock was once considered a loose cannon until a chance encounter with Crossfire led him on a path that resulted in him giving his life to Jesus. He still has a reputation for being reckless, but has since refused to use lethal force even at risk of his own life. He often visits with Crossfire to exchange information on current cases and to fellowship with his mysterious friend.

Cheshire Cat:  A mysterious super heroine from Memphis TN that has crossed CF’s path a few times.  She has the ability to turn invisible and is a skilled martial artist.

Showboat:  An armored Elvis impersonator who works at the casino in Memphis

Card Shark: A classic riverboat gambler type who uses trick playing cards as weapons

ENEMIES:

Agent Six: Agent Six is an agent of an unidentified government agency that has been trying to capture and study Crossfire ever since he first appeared.

Wyrmwood: Wyrmwood is the name of an armored battle suit worn by an unidentified organized crime figure. It first appeared after Crossfire had shut down several drug operations in the area. The suit appears as a 12 foot tall demonic humanoid figure with huge bat wings. It appears that the suit was customized from its original design specifically to torment Crossfire with a demonic opponent.

The Jester: Not much is known about the Jester. He seems to have no other goal than to annoy and humiliate Crossfire. He has on occasion actually acted to protect Crossfire from other dangers. He has stated that Crossfire is his to torment and that noone else is allowed to harm him. He uses modified toys and party favors as weapons. He also carries a short staff with a jester's head (called a bauble) which allows him to fire concussive blasts and perform magic like effects. His abilities are all based on experimental technologies stolen from research facilities and government bases.
