History:

Harvey (Trey) Eblin's grandfather and namesake was the original Blue Bolt during the 1940s and '50s. Blue Bolt had a very successful crime-fighting career, but eventually settled down, married, and raised his children; his heroic identity faded into obscurity along with much of his powers. He never revealed his true identity or ever officially retired, but happily gave it up for a well-deserved normal life. Harvey Eblin's children apparently didn't inherit their father's powers, which suited Harvey just fine.

Years later, one of his sons, Harvey Eblin ll, married. His son Harvey (Trey) was born and raised in Columbus. Harvey had a fairly normal childhood, unaware of his grandfather's heroic exploits until just recently. Just a few years ago, one of Blue Bolt's old foes returned after four decades in prison to even the score. Firebug tracked the eldest Eblin down and blasted him and his 18-year-old grandson with his destructive flame powers. Harvey had enough super-speed to protect his grandson but could not save himself as well. The brutal attack and the need to get his grandfather to safety gave Harvey the shock he needed. He felt a surge of power race through his body, and suddenly he was racing through the streets of the city at super-speed! He brought his grandfather to the emergency room but it was too late. His grandfather had died. But not before telling young Harvey of his legacy. He immediately used his newfound powers to capture Firebug. It wasn't long before a new Blue Bolt was splashed on TV screens and newspapers across the country.

The unconditional support of Harvey's family and his teammates -including the usually conservative Darkwind -has been a big help to the young hero, both personally and publicly. Harvey Eblin ll makes it clear to all who listen that he's tremendously proud of his son and considers him a worthy successor. That statement alone is enough for most people who remember the original Blue Bolt's exploits.

Powers / Equipment:

Blue can cover himself in a type of force field that reduces friction to near zero (he calls it "Anti-Grabbity"). He uses this field to propel himself with astonishing speed (maximum speed of 460 mph), and unless his opponent gets a REALLY good hold, he'll just slip away.

All of his other powers are centered around his ability to make things frictionless. He has the ability to make something frictionless through a continuous act of will. He uses it to make guns or other objects slip out of people's hands, or to hold someone helpless. He can also use this power to make many mechanical devices inoperable or worse; friction is relied upon by many devices.

He can also use the frictionless field to alter a layer of molecules in the target to make them frictionless, so they cannot stand up or aim effectively while on the ground. Flying characters might be able to function almost normally as long as they are in the air. However, they wouldn't be able to hold anything due to the frictionless coating. Usually, Blue won't target people he thinks wouldn't be affected by his powers. He can use an area effect version of this ability, and while less powerful, it's sufficient to keep a group of agents or normals out of action for some time.

Blue's frictionless state enables him to slip the full effect of most blows; even deadly attacks will slip off of him. He uses his frictionless power to travel on the ground at enormous speed, in a skating sort of style. This is his favorite form of attack; move around a held opponent at super-speed and repeatedly hammer them with hyper punches. He's fast enough and can control his friction field to the point he can run across water and up the sides of buildings.

Weaknesses:

He is vulnerable to attacks that also have their own effect on density (gravitics) or that affect the nervous system (which his is tightly bundled). Other than that, his overconfidence and desire to constantly show-off.

Personality:

Blue is, for the most part, a carefree, fun-loving individual, and generally unconcerned by the tensions that grip his teammates. He lives in the moment and he enjoys using his powers and having a good time. Never terribly patient before gaining his powers, now he lives life a 78 rpm; he moves fast, he talks fast, and he never stands still. He makes snap judgments, and is very quick to make friends (especially female ones). He's also quick to make enemies, too.

Blue is really an endearing young man. While he can be quite tiring to be around--all of that energy has to come from somewhere, and it sure doesn't seem to come from him--he can also be a load of fun. Blue always wants to do something. Anything, really. He can't stand being idle.

Fortunately, he manages to keep busy patrolling the city streets, training with his teammates, and handling various public appearences. He's become the impromptu spokesman for the team although he is still a little uncomfortable being considered a "role model" for anyone. He can be a hothead at times and he tends to leap into action immediately. Darkwind has taught him a small measure of restraint, but Blue is still usually the first hero on the scene and the first to take action (or get into trouble).
